Star Trek and Klingon’s and most everything from that universe belongs to someone else and we are just playing with it. No copy write rules have been broken or mis-used. No money is made and no gifts received from the use of any of the Star Trek items in the news letter. It is all for fun. So please don’t sue me or take away my Klingon Uniform. It only takes 15 minutes to read this news letter. Unless you are a feddie.

Voice Of Command: Quadrant Commander
The Klingon Assault Group is a family. We have many faces and we have many views. And we are alike in one way. We are Klingon.
The first step in becoming a Klingon was to understand that there is more in us than just being normal. We have a love of the what if. We can see a world that could be, if only in our mind’s eye and in our heart.
We go from a love of fandom to take the next step of becoming one of the greatest parts of fandom, and that being a Klingon. And then from there we take one more step and we ask to become part of the Klingon Assault Group family.
Being part of the KAG family can be very rewarding. Or it can be just be just another ‘oh by the way, I am a member.’ You get out of KAG what you put into KAG. And if you only have a few minutes a month to check in and say hello, then the friendship’s will be a quick hello back. But if you take the time to grow those friendships then there is no limit to how great they can become.
Over the last few weeks I have come to learn that there are a few people that have been thinking they are no longer part of KAG and that they were dropped from the family. And I ask, how can that be? If you are part of a family then you do not ever stop being part of the family. I myself an proof of that. I left KAG myself for over twenty years and returned to be welcome.
KAG never drops people from their ranks. Once a KAG member, always a KAG member. And as far as I know, no one in KAG has the power to ever dismiss a KAG member. I know that I do not have the power to dismiss anyone from KAG and I don’t think the Thought Admiral has the power to do so.
The only way to stop being a member of KAG is for each person to chose for himself to not be a member anymore. Only you can say when you are no longer a member.
And that brings us back around to the rewards of KAG. What you get out of KAG is what you put into KAG.
I have heard over the last few weeks that some people think that in order to be a member of KAG you have to be registered on some web page as a member of KAG. And that is not true. You do not have to do anything in order to be a member of KAG except have a desire to be a member of KAG. You do not have to attend meetings or events. You do not have to report to anyone or answer to anyone. You don’t have to pay dues or do anything other than just desire to be a member.
How ever, like I said. You will get out of KAG what you put into KAG. Like with any group of people, the ones that step up to be more active in the KAG are the ones that will reach the top.
Rank, Honor, and positions come to those that earn them. Not to members that just watch. And I ask, would you have it any other way? Do you not want the ones that are working to make us great out in front leading the way? Do you not think they should be the ones that receive the greatest rewards?
In this quadrant you can be assured that the people that stand out are not there just because they are watching others work. They are the ones working. They have signed up on a web page to show support for our club. They make monthly reports. They take the time to call the Quadrant Commander to report how their ship is doing or maybe just to say hello. They are taking that extra step in order to be counted.
To sum it up: No one is ever dropped from the KAG membership. No one has to do anything to be a member of KAG. However with rank and position there are extra steps that have to be taken.
As Quadrant Commander of Phoenix Rising I am responsible for every ship and warrior in this quadrant. And I answer to the Fleet Admiral. He will not allow me to set by and just watch. The same is true for the Ship Commanders. They are responsible for each of the warriors on their ship. And they have to report to me what they are doing as a ship. And I cannot allow a Ship’s CO to set by and watch. It would not be fair to the warriors to be commanded by someone who only thought of themself.
One of the biggest problems in fandom is what they call the rumor mill. People get together in little groups and for whatever reason they start talking and passing along what they have heard from their friends. After a few turns of being passed along sometime what was first said becomes something else. And over time a rumor is born. And this can cause damage to our club.
There will be no rumor mill in this quadrant. My door is open to anyone in the quadrant that wants to step in. Everything we do is out in public for everyone to see. So please feel free to contact me with any problems you might face. If you have a problem we cannot make it right unless we face it head on.
All I ask is a chance. If you give me that chance, I will prove myself worthly.

Voice Of Command: Executive Officer
I’d like to use this issue of the Phoenix Rising Battle Stations to talk to those of you in the Phoenix Rising Recruit Depot. Why are you still here? I mean in the Depot. Not reading this newsletter, keep reading this newsletter.
What did you join KAG?
Was it to do things in your community, learn new skills, do fun things with other like minded people (or in this case Klingons)? I’m assuming that you joined KAG to do fun things with friends. Is there really a chance to get together and plan fun activities if you are locked away in a virtual barracks? A KAG ship is typically formed around a geographical area, like a city. Typically an area where enough members can get together and do things, like regular meetings. Meetings that can act as planning sessions, costuming workshops, viewing partys, or a chance to have A Good Day To Dine (going out in uniform to a local restaurant).
It’s the interplay in physical meetings that get events conceived and planned. Something about seeing the spark light up in someone else’s eyes as you present your idea that spurs your own thought processes forward to deliver it in its most favorable form. Then the banging of that idea back and forth between the members present that hones it into something great. It also encourages buy-in of the group for those projects that really need a group effort to carry out. A lot of really fun activities need many hands. If all to those hands can point to how they shaped the idea, they are more willing to carry them off.
So I ask, why are you here? Let’s talk about what kind of KAG career you would like. Email me with your thoughts and ideas at [email protected].
Please share this newsletter with anyone you think would be interested.

How do I join KAG? What are the Requirement? How do I make a ship Report? How do I find members of KAG that are in my area? What are the Rules of KAG? What are the General Orders? What are the Ranks of KAG? What color is Blue?
For the answer to most of these questions you can read the first issue of the Battle Station Newsletter. Just click on the Return to Phoenix Rising Archives link at the bottom of the newsletter and from there click on Issue 1.
In the first issue is a list of KAG rules, the Phoenix Rising General Orders, a list of Phoenix Rising Awards which Quadrant Warriors can earn and the steps to making a monthly ship report. There is also a link to finding members of KAG close to you.
The first issue was set up in a way to make finding the most common questions asked by a new recruit easy to find and easy to get to. Commanders should make sure they have read the first issue and that they are able to refer warriors to use it to help settle into their new position.
Phoenix Rising Minute Reports
This is now almost the end of the second month of the year and our main goal still remains Communications, Reports, and Recruitment. (CRR)
I just cannot stress how important these three steps are to our success for this quadrant. Without them we will not survive and we will not grow.
On the subject of report I must say I am very happy. For the past two months I have posted the Monthly QC report and the ship commanders have responded without the need to be reminded. All but two ships reported in this month. And I am not the only one to note this. The Fleet Admiral has also noted how great we have succeeded in this mission. Well done warriors.
Communication has been a little slow right now. I have only had three CO’s call me this month. But that is not really a requirement so it is all good. And as most of you know I do spend a lot of time in our Discord chat room. This would be a great place to check in a few times a month to just to keep up with where we are and what we have plans for.
Also Recruitment has been slow. We need to work on recruitment. A good way to recruit would be to find a way to identify yourself as a KAG Klingon without having to say it. Having a KAG patch on your coat would tell people that have some small interest in Star Trek that you are also a fan and it would give reason for them to strike up a conversation with you and then give you a chance to go into a recruit pitch.
Our very own Admiral has a supply of KAG patches for sale. And the good part is that they are cheap. You can pick up several for around twenty bucks and maybe give a couple to friends. And you could sew one on your coat to let people know you are a proud KAG Klingon Warrior. Me, I am going to sew one right onto my arm. Who needs a coat?
Also check out the new ID cards on kag.org. These can be down loaded and turned into business cards and or use as ID cards. And they are really cool.

Cedar Rapids Comic Con
On Saturday the 4th, Second Lieutenant Roteq tai-DungyI’SunSIn (Pictured Right) led a small detail of his ship the IKV Black Thunder to the Cedar Rapids Comic Con. With Lieutenant Roteq was crew mate Ashiil, a Andorian, (Left) and the two were undercover as Star Gate 1 officers.
Lieutenant Roteq was the only Klingon at the con and was overwhelmed with request for pictures when he changed into his Klingon Uniform.
Lieutenant Roteq is not part of the Phoenix Rising but is a member of the DungyI’SunSIn family who claim the Phoenix Rising as a home base for the DungyI’SunSIn family. Lieutenant Roteq is bringing honor and glory to the family with his many victories. And he has plans to invade Demicon in May of this year.
Family Line DungyI’SunSIn growing like a wildfire
Another member of the DungyI’SunSIn family has also earned honor for the family this month. Second Lieutenant Juvan tai-DungyI’SunSIn has taken command of the IKV Crimson Fury giving the family command of two ships in the Canadian zone.
The DungyI’SunSIn family which calls the Phoenix Rising their home base now has control of six ships of the fleet with warriors stationed on several other ship’s around the system.

Klingon Way
In 1988, the Province of Alberta initiated a program designed to attract tourists to the towns of Alberta. I, Paul Carneau, was involved in the town of Irma. I heard of the Vulcan plan to link the town of Vulcan to Star Trek.
The reason for the Trek Station and Vul-Con is to draw attention to the town of Vulcan for the purpose of Tourism.
In the spirit of this, the Vulcan Town Councilors dress in Star Fleet uniforms for official civic and provincial functions.
The current population of the town of Vulcan is 1836, according to Google. The question has been asked if we should go outside of KAG for the e-mail/letter writing “Klingon Way” initiative. My answer is, “absolutely!” If we can get more people onboard than actually live in Vulcan, that will be one heck of a statement showing support for Star Trek fans as well as Vulcan, Alberta.
Last night, February 7th, over twenty e-mail/letters were presented to the Vulcan Town Council. Keep the momentum going!
We’re Not asking you to dress up.
We’re Not asking you for money.
We’re Not asking you to get off your butt and leave
your computer.
My friend Paul Carreau and I are asking you–YOU!!–
to send an EMAIL MESSAGE off to the town of Vulcan.
Something like…

To Whom It May Concern,
I have heard that STAR TREK fans are looking at
renaming your Town’s “Service Road” to read

As a long-time STAR TREK fan, I think this is a great
idea, and I hope that the Town of Vulcan will approve
KLINGON WAY.
Thank you for your time!

NO.

is welcome to Write and Send an Email to Vulcan.
Who and Where to send the email? Well, I’m glad I
asked that! They go to:

Ship / Warrior Of The Month
Each month I will post a list of names of Warriors that have stood above all others in the quadrant and have been chosen as candidates for Warrior of the month for that month.
Out of all of last month’s Warriors, only one had a vote. That was the quadrant Commander who also gave his self that one vote. Therefore the Warrior of the Month for January 2017 is …
Captain Kona’Nor sutai-DungyI’SunSIn.
As Warrior of the month, and the CO of the IKV Dark Star, this also makes the IKV Dark Star the ship of the month for January 2017.
The Warrior of the month is chosen from a list of Warriors that have Stood to be seen in the quadrant for any one month. Each month that list will be printed here in the News Letter and then each warrior in the quadrant will have the chance to vote for who they wish to be warrior of the month. It is that easy.
In order to make this list, the warriors must come to the Attention of the Quadrant Command Staff for performance of duty in that month. Once a warrior’s name is added to the list then all they have to do is get other warriors to vote for them to be warrior of the month.
To vote for your Warrior just leave a comment below the New letter saying I vote for who ever as warrior of the month for this month.
This month’s list is as follows.
Jerry Carlton Rice aka Kona’Nor DungyI’SunSIn
Buddy Baker aka N’ayr K’cep
Christine Hoopengardner aka chISwI’ DungyI’SunSIn
John Lars Shoberg aka Jorn Vampyr
Renda M Carr aka Delenn Mir,
Shaun Holbrook aka Kehlahn Kla’Horak
Donna Jean Bearden aka Azetbur Talr
James King aka Kamish D’ung’Yi’Sun’Sin
Michael Rivera aka Kirak TKrull
As soon as the news letter drops this month I will go and vote for myself as warrior of the year. If no one else votes again this month then I will give the award to myself again.
Can I win two months in a row?
Ship Reports For February 2017
I would like to say that the ship reporting system we have been using is really starting to show success. Most ship commanders are now reporting in on time each months and they are filling out the report with some very good data.
Some ship commanders need to pay a little more attention to their ship roster on KAG.org. Some crew members are missing from the ship reports. And not all crew members are listed.
As a CO it is your duty to get your members to sign up at KAG.org and to make sure they are assigned to your ship. This roster is what the Phoenix Rising Command Staff uses to keep up with the warriors in the quadrant. THE SHIP ROSTER IS YOUR WAY TO PROVE YOUR SHIP IS NOT JUST A PAPER SHIP.
Go to KAG.Org. Make sure your crew is listed. Assign them positions. And keep the ship updated. Also make sure your crew know how to read their own profile. this is their KAG record. It is their rank and shows their awards. And if you as the CO do not keep the records correct, then how can the warriors be expected to do their duty?

Treklanta 2017
The time is near. And the space will be full of our enemies. But on those three days in April the Klingon Empire will rise up under the Klingon Assault Group Banner and we will take no prisoners. Unless they are cute and have food to share.
Come join us now in the greatest battle of Atlanta in over 150 years as the Phoenix once again rises up and burns the city down. Or at lease leaves it smoking from our Flames.
Don’t be left out of the greatest victory of the year.
Be sure to get your mothers permission and wash behind your ears before battle. And make sure there are no holes in your underware just in case you have to go to the hospital after the battle is won.
We are going to have a good time. Because I order you to have a good time.
Anyone going to Treklanta who would like to show off what they are doing? I am looking at proposing a KAG Meet and Greet, A Costuming and Prop panel, A Make-up panel, and more if I can find talent. What would you like to share? http://l.facebook.com/l.php…

Making Prop Weapons part 2
Completing the Image:
Making Prop Weapons part 2: Disruptors
Bat’leth or HIch? What do you want to carry, a blade or a gun? There is a wide variety of both within Klingon canon.
The earliest weapon we see Klingons carry was the disruptor in Errand of Mercy (ST: TOS). That disruptor was a modification of the Eminiar, or disruptor from an earlier episode; A Taste Of Armageddon. But this is the pistol you want to complete that Original Series Klingon uniform you are working on. It should be clipped onto your belt as it was carried on the series with velcroed on like the phasers of the Federation. But I feel better if I use a holster to carry it. I typically take the pattern for the TNG disrupter and reduce it by half. But I will talk about holster patterns in a future article.
So how do you get one? There resin kits are available from companies like Arsenal Models, or other casters. They are usually about an inch short of the 13 inches of a full sized disrupter but remember you are using this prop for a costume. There are also paper model kits available from places like PaperCraftSquare or PaperCraft Museum. But for use in crowds of people the safest type would be one of the wooden replicas that Maroq is making and selling at Maroq’s Imperial Emporium.
From there we get a plethora of different handguns, I make this distinction because Klingons would prefer hand weapons instead of using a disruptor. These are easier to get a commercial model of or a resin kit. Pictured here is a resin prop of the Deathsting used in ST: The Motion Picture, Maroq also has a wooden variation of this disruptor. Next is the Klingon disruptor used by Chancellor Gorkon’s escorts in The Undiscovered Country that I got a resin kit from Arsenal Models. Below that is the disruptor used by Captain Kruge in The Search for Spock. It is one of the Diamond Selects models, it comes with a sound effects chip.
Again from The Undiscovered Country we have a pump action disruptor. This is another resin kit that I got from a private caster off The Replica Prop Forum. Finally we have the disruptor used in The Next Generation TV series (because it tended to break less than the Kruge Disruptor), commonly referred to as the bird-beak disruptor. There are also rifle versions of these but they are much harder to find, though Maroq is working on a few designs.
With 3-D printers dropping in price, the ability to props becomes a very easy way to acquire anything you can image. But to use a print an object you have to have a 3-D file. To do this there are open source programs like Sketchup that will allow you to create 3-D files, like the STL files that 3-D printers need. Once you have your file, it is just like printing any other data file you might have generated, load it up select your printer, make sure it is turn on (and warmed up), then hit print. Sit back and wait, up to a couple of days, for it to finish.
But you don’t have to do all the design yourself. There are a few file sharing website, like Thingiverse , Pinshape, or Yeggi where you can download a free project file and print your own props. You will probably have to clean them up after printing, remove support structures and smooth the lines created by the various layers needed to create something 3 dimensional.
If you can’t afford your own printer, look around your community. Many libraries have 3-D printers available for patrons can use or join a Maker Space and share them with a community of people interested in making things.
