After much preparation, the shuttles Fek’lhr and veQDuj departed the batlh qa’s shuttle bay en route to Rosemont, IL on Earth. The mission – to celebrate 49 years of this thing they called Star Trek. Both shuttles were laden with many weapons, alternate uniforms, and supplies for our four day planetside stay. Lt. jenbom arrived in another shuttle not long after we landed and unloaded.
Friday was a fun and busy day. We assisted the emissaries of the The Empire’s Royal Players in the setup of an educational table for A Klingon Christmas Carol. We were provided the opportunity to display cultural items such as jenbom’s Klingon Pop Warrior CD and weaponry from Marok’s Imperial Emporium. One of the highlights of the day was finally meeting up with our newest crewmate, Yael Qav’to, who is home from studying overseas. Yael was wearing a very well made new Klingon uniform and as such was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade.
We could not have asked for a better location for the Klingon Christmas Carol emissaries. The table was right next to all of the stars’ autograph tables including Denise Crosby, Garrett Wang, Robert Picardo, Armin Shimmerman, Conner Trineer and Dominic Keating. Denise Crosby, directly next to us, was very personable and entrusted our crew with guarding her table during her photo ops and stage appearances. I, myself, ran into Garrett Wang in the hallway who took particular interest in my weapons building and we took a picture together.
Saturday was, again, a very busy day with many activities, including a photo op with Terry Farrell (Dax) that Emira and I attended. Ms. Farrell was quite surprised and pleased to have two fully armored and armed to the teeth Klingons turn out for her photo op. Emira later went to her autograph signing where they discussed Klingon wedding ceremonies. At one point during the day, a tribble war was started by none other than our new crewmember, Lt. Yael Qav’to, who appeared disguised as a Romulan. She arrived at our table with a Vulcan in tow and proceeded to assault Lt. jenbom with tribbles, throwing all types of the disgusting little creatures in her direction. Despite the fact that jenbom was holding a large jey’naS, Yael ignored the warning from her Vulcan friend about how the battle would logically end badly for her. That day, another new crewmate appeared as an Andorian and we had a great space for holo images right next to the table and took part in many with Federation crew, Terrans, and even a Borg!
Later in the day, Lt. Cdr. Emira hurried from the other small dealers room toting a tribble and wearing a very satisfied smile on her face. Tribble Wars Part II had occurred! She explained that revenge is a dish best served cold and that she had avenged the attack on jenbom earlier. Emira used personal cloaking technology to infiltrate the dealer table of Lt. Yael and bombarded her with handfuls of tribbles. So many tribbles that Lt. Yael conceded defeat for the day. Later, Yael’s mother came by our table and said that we were so much fun she wanted to join the ranks on Sunday in her own Klingon outfit. Many more holo images were taken throughout the day while roaming the convention. Emira and I even had some fun later on doing an impromptu photo shoot of our own in the hotel after hours.
Sunday!!!! TOS Sunday!!!!! Sunday was a big day for us. It was the very first time we had appeared in TOS Klingon uniforms at this con and we kept it under wraps until the reveal. Many of our regular fans were VERY surprised to find a group of TOS Klingons working the convention floor instead of the ones they were accustomed to seeing. Compliments were received all day long on all of our uniforms and the new weaponry we carried. The new “Jenbom” disruptor rifle was very popular with the masses and took down many redshirts during the day. Lt. jenbom did several pin up photos with the weapons including one that looked like the cover of “Klingon Weapons and Ammo” Magazine. Lt. Yael played a “dead redshirt ” and spent the day getting killed all over the con. Her mother showed up in a TOS uniform of her own making, and, yes! She is joining KAG too!
One of the highlights of the weekend included a Klingon named Murdok from Buffalo, NY and a group of Klingon fans from the same area! We recruited 5 in all and Murdok turned out to be a dormant member. Since returning home, he has already began gearing up to launch a new ship in Buffalo, NY. Another glorious highlight included our TOS uniforms. They were so impressive and surprising, I heard from John Tenuto, one of the TNG writers and presenters at Creation. He said he was VERY surprised and it was really fantastic for everyone to see us in our new outfits on Sunday.
And the adventure continues!!!!
