CARE
PACKAGES
I'll start by reiterating our thanks to House DevnoH for their
generous "red carpet" treatment getting Thought Admiral Kerla and I to
last Dragon*Con. Also thanks to the Ajemians for their
gracious
hospitality hosting us for Polaris 21. It's a wonderful
effort to
bridge our great institution across regions (and a great help to the
disks I could pass out). On to business...
You'd expect crazy talk from me about concepts like "KAG 3.0
technology" and such. I probably sound crazier still to talk
about returning to snail mail.
Yet there it is... "Mail each other by post," I
says. The benefits are boundless.
I've taken to passing out CDs and DVDs like candy. They're
cheap, but entertaining. Fan films, "Community Commons"
music, Photos from your adventures... Candy for the eyes and ears.
The glory of KAG in its "1.0 days" was found in newsletters.
Whether it was carefully desktop published, or just pasted together at
a pizza party, these news rags were the showcase of glory for each KAG
ship, quadrant, fleet, or planet. It put faces to names, and
humorous smiles to our faces.
We work in newer media today. I used to think that the legacy
of my artwork would be found in galleries or garages... but it's all
getting stored on disks now. Of course, mailing disks by the
stack is just a "faster download" than grabbing it from a web site.
What about non-digital stuff? NOTHING beats getting a
finished piece of craftsmanship by package... especially if it's
something useful. Something you've been needing. Do
you know units in KAG that might have need of special arts and
crafts? SURE YOU DO! They're
everywhere up and down the chain of command... starting with our newest
chapters/vessels.
Just the other week I handed Krikor a "bribe" or "tribute" of a
Chancellor Gorkon-style bone-cane. I made it from two-inch
PVC pipe, and gave it to him upon his promotion to Admiral.
Does he *need* it?
Not of any want: he's a damned fine craftsman and costumer
himself. But he sure looks cool with it at conventions, and
he's the first and only one in Canada with one...
so doesn't it help to grease the wheels of KAG's Command, making all
our club look good?
So here's my suggestion to you all: Arm our troops with KAG
gear. Banners, patches, clip art, posters... send it
around. Be sure our newest chapters get this kind of "welcome
wagon" treatment. Help them help KAG look glorious.
