Recently, I was asked “do you save everything??!” My answer is no, not everything. I hope to put into some perspective the history leading up to KAG’s involvement with the town of Vulcan. This is my story. To be fair, a large part of this should be credited Capt Krau, IKV Swifthawk, KAG’s Norther Storm Fleet. That is his story.
Vulcan was incorporated in 1912. The town predates Star Trek.
My involvement, sort of, was in 1987, when I volunteered to work on a committee that was the initiative of the Province of Alberta. The Tourism Action Plan. I was living in the town of Irma, Alberta. At that time, I heard about Vulcan’s plan to associate with Star Trek and specifically The Next Generation which was currently in production.
Time moves forward to 2003. My wife Sue, aka Q’Oneqo, and I had moved from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Calgary, Alberta in 2002. We heard about this little convention, Spock Days/Galaxy Fest in Vulcan and decided to check it out. I was curious because I was very well aware of the (pardon the pun) genesis of the Star Trek inspiration
This photo was taken by a local newspaper. It was the fist time I met Capt Krau (Jaymz Smith). Krau kept challenging me as to who I was, and the moment was captured.
Q’Oneqo and I started a ship in Calgary, the IKV K’Tan, and with the IKV Swifthawk we paraded in the local Spock Days/Galaxy fest parade in 2004. Those are steel Bat’leths that we are using. The Weapons Policy at that time was that there was not a weapons policy.

This is a Klingon Wedding that took place in at the Trek Station. It was a legal wedding, not hosted by Spock Days/Galaxy Fest. The wedding was also featured in StarTrek Communicator issue 154. Q’Oneqo is the Warrior holding the Bat’leth on the left.
One of my favorite memories is Robert O’Reily and J.G. Hertzler being initiated as Warnog Warriors at the Throne of Kahless. The Throne of Kahless is also the inspiration for the Star Trek themed beer, Klingon Warnog.

This picture was taken at the Trek Station in November. It was for a pilot program that was filmed in the Trek Station. Special meaning for me because a month later Q’Oneqo passed into the Black Fleet.

This poster was based on a picture that was taken in 2008. The photo and poster are one of my favorite pictures.
There is definitely a history with KAG and Vulcan Alberta. There is definitely a justification for wanting a street named for Klingon fans.
